Shared Printer for Home Network

A terrific side effect of installing a computer network in your home is the ability to share a printer. Households without networks face some difficulties when it comes to printing. Network-deficient households have to rely on some less-than-perfect solutions.

If you want all the computers on your network to be able to access a single printer, you have to set up the Windows printer-sharing feature. Then you have to set up the printer for sharing. You perform these tasks at the computer to which the printer is connected.

The most difficult part of setting up network printing is deciding which computer gets the printer. Here are some common guidelines you can follow:

  • Location. If you have room for a table at one computer location (and storage space for paper), that’s the computer to choose.
  • Usage patterns. If one computer on the network is used far more often than any other computer, that’s the computer to select.

Some households have more than one printer. You may have a black-and-white printer as well as a color printer. When you enable printer sharing, each user can choose a printer every time he or she wants to print.

You can attach two printers to one computer if that’s more convenient, as long as the computer has sufficient ports. If one printer uses the printer port, and the other printer connects to the USB port, just plug them in. If both printers use printer ports, you can add a second printer port to the computer (it’s expensive). If both printers use USB connections, you probably have a second (or third or fourth) USB port. If you don’t have any empty USB ports, you can buy a USB hub (which adds ports).

Used Laptops - Are They a Good Deal?

The answer is Yes if you are a smart shopper. Finding a laptop that will meet your needs while at the same time saving you quite a sum of money is always a good thing. Buying a used or a refurbished laptop is a great option for many of us especially today with the economy the way it is right now.

There are a number of places to find used and refurbished laptops out there and probably the most common is here on the internet. eBay is my option for purchasing many items and I have had great results using them for many of my purchases. The computer that I am working on right now was purchased through eBay and I have no regrets with my purchase. There are many other sites out there that you can check Craigslist, Yahoo! shopping, Buy.com or you can do a Google search for used laptops and find sites which specialize in used and refurbished laptops as well.

3 Steps to Fix Registry Errors

Step 1: You need to backup your current registry. This is a must when ever you’re modifying the system registry or any other important file system. You always want to have the option of going back to the way things were before you made any changes, just in case things get worse.

Most registry repair programs offer a backup utility, or you can do it manually by creating a new windows system restore point.

Listening MP3’s on Car Audio

You can play MP3 files from your home stereo, from your computer, and from a portable player using headphones. But MP3 is still a relative newcomer in the world of car audio.

If your car’s audio system doesn’t recognize MP3 music discs, consider these less expensive workarounds:

  • Use a cassette player adapter. If your car has a cassette player, check out a CD-to-Cassette Player adapter. It looks like a cassette tape with a stereo cable hanging from one end. Plug the cable into your portable MP3 player’s headphone jack, insert the cassette, and start listening to your MP3s through your car stereo. It sounds amazingly good - well, at least compared to the road noise.
  • Use a wireless FM adapter. Plug the cable from an FM transmitter into your portable MP3 player. Then tune your car’s FM radio to the right frequency and listen to your MP3s. Unfortunately, sound quality varies because of local interference, and you’re dependent on the batteries that power your wireless adapter.
  • Buy a car stereo with a CD Input jack. Some car stereos lack a CD player. Instead, they have a CD Input jack. Plug a 1/8-inch stereo cable between this jack and your portable MP3 player to hear MP3s through your car’s stereo system.
  • Burn MP3 songs onto a CD in audio format. Does your car have a CD player? Then convert your MP3 songs back into standard CD audio format and copy them to a CD. You can’t fit more than a dozen onto the CD, but at least you can hear them.
  • Connect a portable MP3 player to amplified speakers. Take some amplified speakers - like the ones that come with your PC - and plug a portable MP3 player into them. Carry it all to your car and start listening. To change songs, just swap new cards in and out of the portable player.

Just like car stereos, dedicated MP3 players for cars can be ripped off. To avoid that, substitute your portable MP3 player. You can easily grab your portable MP3 player when you leave the car, keeping it safe
