Upgrade Processor in Current Windows XP
Replace Processor in a current system but keep everything else the same such us Motherboard, RAM, Hard Drive with all the installed drivers and softwares, will need to reinstall the operating system?
The operating system is Windows XP Pro and CPU upgrading from Intel Duo Core to Quad Core. The motherboard BIOS has been updated and will recognize the Quad Core.
Dewcoons, 16 years in computer IT support explain that we should not have to reinstall Windows XP.
The way Windows works, it tracks 10 items within your computer (including the processor) to see if it is running on the same computer it was originally installed. It will normally allow you to change up to four or five of those items before it complains. So changing just the processor should not matter to Windows.
However, you might have to run a CD that comes with the processor to update a driver for Windows to properly handle the new processor.

You also may want to consider updating your computers BIOS. Especially since you are switching to the Quad Core processor. I see a lot of BIOS updates recently addressing compatibility issues with the newer processors.
Just my two cents,
